Well, I finally transformed the bath/shower combo into a roll-in shower that is meant to accommodate my husband’s wheelchair. Mostly, I put this shower wheelchair together myself, and the task was fairly straightforward, easy compared to most items that require assembly.
He’s gained some weight since losing his legs, and I’d guess he’s over 195 lbs. we use a transfer board—from his electric to the shower chair—and I can report that this chair makes the transfer in smooth fashion! I was worried that it might move (at best) or flip (at worst), but the shower chair is unquestionably resolute in staying in place.
The shower chair offers a smooth ride, goes across wood, tile, bedroom rug and bathroom rug (both are short and closely woven) without a hitch.
Stable ride, stable when locked in place both in and out of shower, and we’ve found that I don’t need to lock the small front wheels.
As a matter of fact, he’s able to transfer and shower without any help. Now, that’s some chair!
